day 9 - birds
Some highlights from this evening:
merganser sp. (8, flying over, through the trees)
Golden-crowned Kinglet (a few)
Black-throated Blue Warbler (2, both female)
Yellow-rumped Warbler (numbers)
Blackpoll Warbler (5+, including one male in breeding plumage)
I really like fall warblers. Loved that my first of the evening was a drab, backlit Blackpoll. Loved that all I needed to see was the undertail coverts and tail, and a flash of yellow feet. Bring it on, baby.

Hi Catherine,
I am so thrilled that you are having such interesting bird encounters on the sanctuary. Not being much of a birder myself anymore, I’ve always thought there was more out there than I was able to spot or identify. I hope your experiences help draw some more birding interest in the sanctuary.
That bee image is really great. Did you know that a bee keeper has two hives on the property?

Hi Steve - I will have to go look at the hives and see how much activity is going on. The honey bees seemed to be a little wiser to the weather shift than the bumble bees…
